I began training in 1990 aged 5 years old at my local TAGB club in Kilmarnock . I got my black belt at the age of 12 and at the age of 14 my instructor at the time Tom Clark decided to move away from the TAGB to the ITF, this is where I began to have success in competition where I won the British Championships 3 times, the Scottish Championships 4 times and European Championships. This resulted in me being chosen to represent Scotland as part of the Junior team. My first event with the Scottish Team was in Italy where I came 3rd and I managed to keep my place in the team.
My instructor decided to move away from the ITF when I was 16, but because I felt I was becoming established in the organisation and fairly successful I decided to remain with the ITF and trained in Bellshill. One of the instructors at Kilmarnock when I was younger then opened his club in Kilmarnock , as part of the TAGB. I fancied the challenge of moving back to the TAGB to try and win titles within their setup so Scott McMillan became and still is my instructor.
Since moving back to the TAGB as an adult I have became a member of the Scottish Team, I have won the British Championships and European Championships. I came third in the 2007 World Championships and was selected to fight for the British Team at the WASCO World Championships in Italy in 2008 which I also won.
I gained my 2nd Dan in 2007 and opened my own club in Irvine . Future goals include helping to develop the TAGB in Scotland , go for my 3rd Dan as soon as possible and continue competing for as long as possible. |
