I have been involved in martial arts for 20 years, starting with Karate. My first instructor was Pat McKay (former 4-times World Champion) and Tommy Burns (former European Champion). When this came to an end I started training with Kenny Henry 2nd Dan Shotokan Karate, and attained a purple belt level. In January 1991 I found TAGB Taekwondo. at the Galleon Leisure centre, my first instructor was Pat Mallon 5th Dan, it was 1992 when Pat Mallon left to got to USA to live, my instructor changed to Thomas Clark, then a 1st Dan.
Through my colour belt career, I was national champion 4 times. It was July 1994 when I first represent my country in the World Championships, where I attained a quarter-final position. Since then I have represent my country several times. The last time was the world championships 2002 in Miami, where I again got to the quarter-finals (the last 8). I have been teaching since winter of 1994 as the assistant instructor in Kilmarnock, under the instructor at the time Thomas Clark, and then opened my own club in Ayr. In the past 12 years, I have been teaching taekwondo on the basis of leading by example. Currently, I still enjoy competition... even more I enjoy teaching my students and seeing them achieve either the next grade or the next competition win.
My objective in Taekwondo is to continually develop myself and TAGB Scotland.
